Stig Blomqvist dominated the early season, Ari Vatanen stole limelight on second half. In the process, Blomqvist became first driver to score three wins in a row and five wins in one season.

In the view of Stig having prefence inside Audi team, it is interesting to note that Mikkola scored two more podiums than Stig. Of course, since all but one of Stig's podiums were wins it was natural that the swede accumulated more points.
