Lancia continued from where they left off in 1974 with mighty Stratos. Munari won season-opening Monte Carlo in style and Waldegard the next event in Sweden. Further wins followed in San Remo and Tour de Corse, closing the second WRC title for Lancia already before the season was over.
Fiat, who owned Lancia, followed with concern the developing battle between brands of the same company. Since Lancia had gotten better start for the season, it was ordered to go on and capture the title while Fiat scaled down their participation. This allowed not only Lancia to dominate, but also many interesting results.

First ever WRC win for Walter Rohrl in Acropolis and win for "economy class" Toyota Corolla in 1000 Lakes by Hannu Mikkola are the most striking ones. Mikkola drove for number of teams, starting off with Fiat in Monte Carlo, went on to win Morocco for Peugeot and later the already mentioned 1000 Lakes for Toyota.
Peugeot won both of the endurance events of the season though Lancia fielded Stratos in Safari. Ford took 1-2-3 in Lombard RAC Rally even though the real star of the event was Waldegard. The rear bodywork of his Stratos went missing after driveshaft repairs and he continued with odd-looking car. Scoring 44 stage wins (out of 70 possible) he climbed from 120th to seventh but was later excluded.
