Year of the Frog
decoration
1994 was Didier Auriol's year but as well it could have been Francois Delecour's year. Ford had finished strong second behind Toyota in previous season and Delecour had finished almost as strong second behind Juha Kankkunen. Either way, it was time that France got it's first World Champion, french drivers being second only to finns in number of WRC wins. Besides, after record-breaking but disappointing 1992 it was fitting that Auriol claimed the crown at last.

Changes
decoration
FIA introduces a radical way to reduce costs by cutting number of events via rotational calendar. Events are no longer assured to have full WRC status each year, instead events can run at F2-only status once before being reinstated in the following season.

New cars
decoration
The only new car of the season at top level was Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution II, introduced in Acropolis. It was a step forward but due to team's small programme it was difficult to make comparison of the new Evolution to it's opposition.
