At least aesthetically the WRC2003 is prettier than the previous "Bugzilla". Aerodynamic changes included front, derived from face-lifted street version, and revised rear wing with four vertical fins. Since Safari was no longer part of the championship, emphasis of aerodynamics focused more on downforce rather than optimum top speed.
Internal changes concentrated on engine which was more powerful though team stressed that improved driveability was equally important.
