Despite the new look, the WRC2001 is mechanically almost identical to it's precessor. Reason is that Impreza WRC2000 was practically all-new car and was introduced only nine months before WRC2001 first saw action in Monte Carlo 2001.
Though differences appear cosmetic, the change to four-door body shell was not without implications. Extra doors compromised rigidity and added extra weight to base shell which Prodrive had to eliminate. Four doors have their benefits too, improving serviceability of certain components.
Under the skin engine was uprated as well the electronics plus various bits and pieces that the previous big revolution didn't touch like cockpit internals.
