Initially Toyota had upper hand, holding 1-2-3-4 lead after SS4. Then Katsuta hit a tree and lost a wheel and Evans suffered broken driveshaft, leaving team with just 1-2 lead. But big blow was yet to come as on SS19 first Evans and then leader Rovanpera went off. This left Ogier (pictured) rounding a bend and finding situation completely changed as he was now on lead and claimed the surprise win.

Neuville was first on the road but wet conditions made it better for him. Despite this advantage, his team-mate Lappi seemed to be the only one who could challenge the leading three Toyotas. But after first Tanak and then Lappi both went off, Neuville was left alone to score for the team. In the end, Toyota suffered same fate and Hyundai outscored them handsomely.

Adrien Fourmaux initially struggled with lack of confidence on wet roads and having had no of pre-event test, running as low as eight overall. But further the rally proceeded, the higher he climbed. Out of top drivers, only the three who finished on podium had not gone off so Adrien's fourth podium of the season wasn't result of speed but persistence and avoiding over-driving.
