Three wins, more than anyone else during the season, is a great achievement for a new-comer like Kankkunen. Interestingly his closest challenger Alen won only once (San Remo not counted). Peugeot scored twice as many wins as Lancia.

But in podium finishes Alen is ahead of Juha and both were miles ahead of everyone else. Both contributed half or more of their respective team's podium finishes. Third best score was for Toyota who gained their podiums from 1-2 in Safari and 1-2-3 in Ivory Coast.

In stage wins, Alen and Lancia have a healthy lead. This underlines how desperate especially Alen sought that elusive victory during the season. Given that also in led stages Alen and Lancia head Kankkunen and Peugeot, it is interesting to note the contrast to win statistics.

Are evident from stage lengths. After Corsica, FISA cut maximum distance to 30 km's so it is no wonder that all longest stages are from first events of the season.
