Before rally started, Hyundai played down their chances, claiming that car was under-developed. While it was obvious that Tanak had to dig deep and take big risks, he shot into lead after SS2 and successfully defended it from Toyota's pressure, claiming his third win in Rally Finland. Championship leader Rovanpera suffered from his road position and ended first day in 4th place. During Saturday he slowly reeled in first Evans and then Lappi, ending the day in 2nd place just 8,4s behind Tanak. In view of championship, Kalle opted to finish safely rather than pressure Tanak. Gus Greensmith

Breen started the event as clear favourite amongst M-Sport Ford drivers but as his luck goes these days, he hit rock in mid-air after a jump and retired for the day. Eventually the best placed Ford was Greensmith (pictured) who only managed to catch non-nominated Loubet after SS17. Click picture to see larger version in a pop-up window
