Rovanpera was again first on the road but rainy conditions helped him to mitigate associated time loss in the first and longest day. On second day, Kalle began to push very hard, as is evident here and only after a few stages took the lead which he held until the end. With this win, Kalle made sure of the title and became youngest WRC champion. Click picture to see larger version in a pop-up window
Ott Tanak

Tanak started the rally with very slim championship hopes and initially he alternated in the lead with various other drivers. Many drivers, him included were penalized for technicality with excess hybrid power. This combined with general lack of feeling with the car relegated him to second and later to third. Craig Breen

New Zealand is a far-away event and thus expensive to participate. M-Sport fielded only two cars for Breen (pictured) and Greensmith, their third entry was non-nominated customer car for Bertelli. Greensmith rolled out on second day and as Breen had lost lots of time when he slid off on SS5, he finished lowly 19th but still 5th best manufacturer entry.
