Mitsubishi Lancer Evo
decoration
This recognition guide shows you how to tell apart different Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution versions. In general, Lancer Evo is perhaps one of the easiest of rally cars to identify.

General information about recognition guides and rally car recognition

Evo IV
decoration
Easy to tell apart from first three evolutions thanks to it's new body.

Rear-wing
This particular fixed wing was only used with Evo IV and is bomb-proof way to idenfity the car (pic 1).

Bonnet
Evo IV has pretty basic single wide air vent on middle of the bonnet and one smaller to right side (pic 4).

Front bumper
Compared to earlier versions, Evo IV was first to have fixed light mountings. It also had two small vertical fins on top of bumper, ahead of small air intake (pic 4).

Evo V
decoration
Rear-wing
Adjustable wing, easy to distinguish from fixed wing of previous evolution (pic 2).

Bonnet
Compared to Evo IV, air vent on bonnet is more of U-form and has been divided in two equal parts plus is protected by slightly more pronounced air dam (pic 5).

Bumper
Hole for the intercooler is mostly same as in Evo IV but light mountings on each side of it are less pronounced. Side holes are inverted from Evo IV and engine air intake is somewhat larger (pic 5).

Evo VI
decoration
Rear wing

Another new wing, this time with two horizontal parts which makes car easy to identify from rear. Position is more towards rear and side profile is different (pic 3).

Front bumper

Unique front bumper that makes this Evolution easy to distinguish from front. Light mountings were moved to extremes of the side and were round shaped (pic 6).

Evo 6.5
decoration
Unfortunately Evo VI and Evo 6.5 have identical outward appearance.

WRC04
decoration
New design, radical in appearance and easy tell apart from it's precessors (pic 7).

WRC05
decoration
Design of the wheel arches in WRC05 is different from that of WRC04, arches are no longer open from the rear (pic 8).
