Rallycourse 2004
decoration
This edition saw an end of the long line of David Williams -edited Rallycourse annuals with new managing editor Owain Jones in reins. A large number of staff changes took place, only Martin Sharp and McKlein photography crew continued to contribute. Out of total of three editors only one did any (credited) writing at all, the sub editor Gillian Bell.

Format changed too, editor's introduction was discarded and car specifications were detached from technical review and moved the end of the book. Worse than these was the fact that while number of rallies expanded from 14 to 16, total page count remained at 160. That meant that increased event coverage hogged six pages away from the articles, leaving the book too thin on content.

Overall, this edition is a major let-down. It's shortcomings are reflected in such miniscule details as large number of photo captions stating simply "Driver X in his Car Y". The witty captions of the past are sorely missed.

Drivers Top Ten

Same familiar feature as before, author not disclosed.

Mr Normal

Profile of Sebastien Loeb by David Evans, a tad on a short side as pictures take up five of the six pages. Due to this, only his championship winning season is covered but nothing of his previous past.

By Royal Appointment

Mark Walton's profile of Carlos Sainz, even shorter with hardly any tex tat all.

Review of the Year

The task of review of the year falls on Paul Haines.

Sadly Missed

Obituaries of Richard Sainct and Janusz Kulig.

Defying the Desert

As if having less pages isn't bad enough, pages are wasted on Paris-Dakar. Again!

Serious Attitufes

The dependable Martin Sharp is at technical review, the best feature of the book. Starting from rally car engines, going to centre of gravity and ending with differentials and traction.

Rules of Engagement

Mark Walton explains some of the many rule changes and reversals of and concerning 2004 season such as the driver ruling mess and calendar expansion.
