Marcus took an early lead, lost it in the second leg but after a furious chase in last day, eventually won by mere 0.3 seconds in a thrilling finale.

Loeb fought well and even if he might feel disappointed, fans loved every minute of the final day. Result was closest finish since 1998 Portugal.

Behind Gronholm and Loeb, there were numerous other tight battles. Atkinson won his rally-long struggle against Latvala and Sordo and was fourth.
