Several small sections are added as FIA Championships and Cups develop. Super1600 with independent sections both to S1600 cars and Super1600 Cup are new, as are Middle-East and African regional championship sections. Otherwise no major changes. Text by Martin Holmes, pictures by Maurice Selden.

Phil Short's Life with the Champions

Phil Short discusses various top drivers, including all four that after Safari 2001 held the shared position of 23 WRC wins (record at that time). Besides there four - Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Makinen, Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz - also likes of Didier Auriol and Marcus Gronholm are discussed. Interestingly, Phil Short has had a working relationship with each so he knows what he is talking about.

Mitsubishi Enter the World Rally Car Era

Mitsubishi's Lancer WRC is introduced, at the time of writing the expectations still were high - even so high that on a list covering Mitsubishi Lancer rally car variants the wins-column for Lancer WRC reads "many coming!". As history shows, that was never to happen and this article, read today, sheds some light to shortcomings of the car. From technical perspective it is very interesting, given that Mitsubishi was the last to switch from Group A rules to World Rally Car rules after their competitors already had a four years worth of experience of those.

Never Ending Success of Skoda

Almost complete story of Skoda in rallying, starting from 1960's Octavia (the original one) to 1000/1100MB, 200/130Rs and Group B 130LR, on to Favorit, Felicia and new Octavia, both kit-car and World Rally Car. Memories are mostly from Jiri Kotek (co-driver and team manager) and Pavel Janeba (Skoda WRC team boss).

Race to the Sky

A non-WRC visit to New Zealand, this time to hill climb called Race to the Sky.

The Life of Jorge Recalde

In the memory of late Jorge Recalde, the greatest Argentinian rally driver, Holmes recounts Jorge's life and career.
