Loeb took lead in the first day thanks to great drive through second run of long Ascochinga stage and Solberg's broken steering.

Hirvonen trailed Loeb by just a few seconds for most of the rally, dropping back only in final stages.

Ford hired Dani Sordo to drive in place of injured Latvala. Sordo performed very well, running third through all the rally until final stage retirement due to alternator failure.
