Chief Engineer, Citroen Sport (2005-2014)
Text by Citroen
In 1995 Xavier Mestelan-Pinon received his engineering
degree from the ESTACA and joined Citroën
Sport after his end-of-studies training course. First of
all he was put in charge of the client-competition department,
and he developed the range of products
based on the Citroën Saxo.
In 2000 he was entrusted with running Bruno
Thiry’s Xsara Kit-Car in the European Championship
and Sébastien Loeb’s car in the Var Rally. Their first
partnership ended in a victory.
Mestelan-Pinon was involved in the team’s rise to
prominence. He was asked to run the 2001 WRC
programme and in 2003 he looked after chassis.
In March 2005 he took over responsibility for the
whole technical department, and he was given the
mission of designing the C4 WRC.
Mestelan-Pinon is backed up by Patrice Davesne (engine),
Laurent Fregosi (chassis), Didier Raso (electronics
and systems) and Benoît Nogier (Citroën Racing
Technologies). He was appointed Citroën Racing
Deputy Team Principal in January 2012.
